Bismuth is a brittle metal and crystalline metal. It constitutes the most naturally diamagnetic metal. Typically, bismuth is found as bismuthinite (bismuth sulfide), bismite (bismuth oxide) and bismuthite (bismuth carbonate). Bulk metal oxides find extensive application as catalysts for industrial selective oxidation reactions.
