Metal Organic Framework

As a new family of mesoporous and microporous materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered versatile materials for widespread technical applications. ZIF-8 (Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework) is a metal organic framework (MOF) made by zinc ions coordinated by four imidazolate rings. ZIF-8 has been shown to act as good catalysts for the transesterification of vegetable oils, the Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction between benzoyl chloride and anisole, and for the formation of carbonates. ZIF-8 nanoparticles can also be used to enhance the performance in the Knoevenagel condensation reaction between benzaldehyde and malononitrile. Also, ZIF-8 is a promising material for adsorption and separation which has large surface area and good thermal stability. Excitingly, it also exhibites higher adsorption capacity for acidic drugs.
