Metal- Foil based nanotechnology could enable large scale production of lighter, cheaper, and environmentally friendly deep UV LED. Metal foils attract a large field of applications, e.g. in micro-technology they are being used for sensors, actors, micro-electro-mechanical systems and in medical devices. Stainless steels, FeNi alloys, Nickel and Nickel based alloys, Copper as well Aluminium are the principal materials for our metal foils.
A foil is a very thin sheet of metal, usually made by hammering or rolling. Foils are most easily made with malleable metals, such as aluminium, copper, tin, and gold. Characteristics of metal-foils include- high permeability, low coercivity, specific electrical resistance, corrosion resistance, linear coefficient of thermal expansion, etc.
Foils usually bend under their own weight and can be torn easily. The more malleable a metal, the thinner foil can be made with it. Foil is commonly used in household applications. It is also useful in survival situations, because the reflective surface reduces the degree of hypothermia caused by thermal radiation.
