The synthesis of Molybdenum Disulphide Powder (MoS2) are either synthesized by high temperature as mono and polycrystalline material or at low temperature using various electrochemical routes. The temperature required for high temperature technique is 800-900 °C (approx.) and for low temperature method is 110-140°C. The diameter of MoS2 nanoparticles is about 10-30 nm and these nanoparticles are mostly amorphous with round shape. They are chemically very stable, due this property of MoS2 nanoparticles; they are mostly used in catalysis and lubrication.

Therefore, in composite application, MoS2 can be used as a nano-composite with polystyrene (PS) [PS/MoS2] which increases the conductivity and enhances the electrical property, thus can be used as a conductive filler.

The friction coefficient of these nanoparticles is ~ 0.03-0. They can be dissolved in aqueous and concentrated sulfuric acid, insoluble in water and dilute acid. Molybdenum Disulphide Powder as a solid lubricant because of two reasons , one is Molybdenum sulfide is a transition metal dichalcogenide semi conductor material which exhibits a layered structure (consisting of covalently bound trilayers) between layers of sulfur atoms combined with weak easy-to-slide and showed good friction-reducing effect. Another one is exposure sulfur atoms of the crystal surface on the metal surface have a very strong adhesion to form a very solid film; therefore lubrication is superior to other general-lubricating materials. As compared with ordinary molybdenum disulfide, Nanoparticles of molybdenum disulfide has many excellent properties, such as : excellent friction, large active surface area, more adsorption capacity, high reactivity, catalytic properties, especially the performance of catalytic hydrogenation desulfurization more, can be used to prepare special materials, catalytic materials and gas storage.
