Platinum powder is a lustrous silvery-white, malleable and ductile metal. It is a member of group 10 of the periodic table of the elements. It has the third-highest density element. Platinum is unaffected by air and water. However, it will dissolve in different ways such as hot aqua regia, in hot concentrated phosphoric and sulphuric acids, and in molten alkali. It is utilized as resistant as gold to corrosion and tarnishing. Indeed, platinum will not oxidize in air.
Platinum powder has a coefficient of expansion almost equal to the soda-lime-silica glass. Therefore, it is employed to make sealed electrodes in glass systems. In the presence of platinum wire, hydrogen and oxygen gas mixtures explode. Platinum has many applications such as its wear- and tarnish-resistance characteristics are well-suited for making fine jewelry.
Platinum and its alloys are utilized in surgical tools, electrical resistance wires, laboratory utensils, and electrical contact points. It is utilized as a catalyst in the catalytic converter and also it is employed as an optional component of the gasoline-fuelled automobile exhaust system. The largest use of platinum is for jewelry. Moreover, it is utilized in the industry such as used in the chemical, electrical, glass and aircraft industries, each accounting for about 10 tonnes of the metal per year.
Platinum Powder: The glass industry utilizes platinum for optical fibers and liquid crystal display glass, especially for laptops. Moreover, Platinum is applied in decoration and dental work. In addition, the metal and its alloys are also utilized for electrical contacts, fine resistance wires and medical / laboratory instruments. An alloy of platinum and cobalt is utilized to produce strong permanent magnets. The metal is also applied to make electrodes sealed in glass.
Platinum Powder: In the electronics industry, platinum is utilized for computer hard disks and thermocouples. Platinum is also used to make optical fibers and LCDs, turbine blades. In addition, it is also employed in spark plugs, pacemakers, and dental fillings. Platinum compounds are indispensable for chemotherapy drugs. So it is used to treat cancers. It is also used as a catalyst to enhance the efficiency of fuel cells.
