Yttrium Acetate Tetrahydrate is a moderately water soluble crystalline Yttrium source that decomposes to Yttrium oxide on heating. It is generally immediately available in most volumes. All metallic acetates are inorganic salts containing a metal cation and the acetate anion, a univalent (-1 charge) polyatomic ion composed of two carbon atoms ionically bound to three hydrogen and two oxygen atoms for a total formula weight of 59.05.

Yttrium has the highest thermo-dynamic affinity for oxygen, useful in ceramics for crucibles for molten reactive metals, in florescent phosphors, computer displays and automotive fuel sensors.

Yttrium oxysulfide used to be widely used to produce red phosphors for old-style colour television tubes.The radioactive isotope yttrium-90 has medical uses. It can be used to treat some cancers, such as liver cancer.
