Lithium nanopowder is a soft, light, alkali metal that is widely employed in heat transfer applications. Lithium, a fundamental ingredient for batteries, is also a therapeutic element with properties to prompt the cellular mechanisms of bone tissue formation. Local application of Li+ ions improves bone healing by incrementing the bone mineral density or accelerating bone formation. Likewise, bioceramics such as calcium phosphate cement and microbioactive glass have exhibited superior properties such as osteogenic and angiogenic when doped with lithium.
