Lithium nanopowder is a soft, light, alkali metal that is widely employed in heat transfer applications. The usage of portable electronic devices is increasing and requires improved Li-ion batteries with excellent results over many discharge-recharge cycles. Lithium-ion batteries are found in everything from laptops and power tools to electric cars and Mars rovers. These are advantageous because these are relatively inexpensive, can be easily recharged, and operate well at low and ambient temperatures.

It is also employed in greases, casting, welding or soldering. Lithium chloride and lithium bromide are applied as desiccants for gas streams. It is also used as high-energy additives to rocket propellants.
