Hexagonal boron nitride powder is a chemical compound in which its chemical formula BN consists of equal numbers of boron and nitrogen atoms. The hardness of Boron nitride is inferior only to diamond. Because of excellent thermal and chemical stability, Boron Nitride is widely used in mechanical applications.
Hexagonal boron nitride powder properties are high thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion, good thermal, shock resistance, low resistance, high electrical resistance, low dielectric constant and non toxicity. BN nanostructures are expected to be useful as electronic devices, field-effect transistors, high heat-resistant semiconductors, insulator lubricants, nanowires, magnetic nanoparticles and gas storage materials.
Hexagonal boron nitride powder (hBN) is also known as ‘White Graphite’, has similar (hexagonal) crystal structure as of Graphite. (h-BN) is a wide band-gap material with outstanding mechanical, electrical and optical properties. It consists of a layered structure that is very similar to graphite.
Hexagonal boron nitride powder is widely used to reduce friction in industrial applications, but it has only recently been adapted to bullets. The “latest and greatest” bullet-coating material, hBN is ultra-slippery, goes on clear, and will not combine with moisture or potentially harm barrel steel. hBN also can withstand extremely high temps (1000° C). hBN will become the preferred dry lubricant for bullet-coating.
We used Hexagonal boron nitride powder for nuclear powder applications to for electrical insulation and high thermal conductivity. Fortunately we found very excellent desired results.
